Are You Comfortable Listening to a Recording of Your Voice?

U.S. adults are split when it comes to how comfortable they are with hearing a recording of their own voice. While 16 percent cringe when they listen to a recording, 23 percent are very comfortable with the sound of their own voice, according to a December survey conducted by YouGov, which polled more than 4,000 Americans.

A-list actor Adam Driver is potentially in the 16 percent. The “Marriage Story” star reportedly walked out of an interview with NPR after they played a clip of him singing in Noah Baumbach’s new Netflix movie, where Driver performs a moving rendition of “Being Alive” from the musical “Company” at the end of the film. Even though Driver had been on NPR’s “Fresh Air” previously and talked about feeling uncomfortable watching and listening to himself, the host replayed the clip anyway. According to the Daily Beast, which first published the report on December 17, sources said Driver was encouraged to remove his headphones when they played the clip. Instead, he purportedly left.
