UK Election

How 2019's voter turnout measures up

With a rare December election comes a different set of circumstances in which voters are required to make their way to the polling stations. Questions around how the weather might play a part in a winter election as opposed to the usual May poll led some to expect a reduced turnout.

While it's not clear if the weather was a significant factor in the end, turnout this time around did bring an end to four elections' worth of increase. As this infographic shows, turnout has grown steadily since 2001, but sank this year by 1.5 points to 67.3 percent (after 649 of 650 seats declared).
