UK Election 2019

Which manifesto policies did the public take notice of?

The British public could probably be forgiven for suffering from a little political apathy of late. Since the EU referendum in 2016, there haven't been many days without the news being dominated by Brexit or its political ramifications, and this Thursday's general election will be the third in 5 years. One sign of this apathy may well be seen in a recent YouGov poll about the Labour and Conservative manifestos.

When asked what they knew of the main policies contained in them, around a third of respondents said they simply didn't know. This could also be the result of a lot of voters making their choice based on a party's approach to Brexit, therefore making other policies less significant in their decision making.

For those paying some attention though, it would have been hard to not notice the Conservatives' heavy focus on 'getting Brexit done', with a whole range of subjects being brought back around by the prime minister to the current Brexit deadlock - 43 percent of respondents were able to say that 'Brexit' is one of the Tory's main policies. On the Labour side, their manifesto pledges to invest more in the NHS as well as a whole range of other spending plans were noted by the most people.
