FIFA: Agent Fees Topped $650 Million In 2019

FIFA has released a report about the amount of money being spent on agents and intermediaries involved in international soccer transfers. The data shows that global spending on commissions has reached $653.9 million, nearly 20 percent higher than last year. Clubs from Italy, England, Germany, Portugal, Spain and France accounted for 80 percent of the total.

As part of a wide-ranging reform of the transfer system, FIFA is planning to place a cap on agents' fees. In October, the FIFA Council approved proposals limiting the amount paid to 10 percent of the transfer fee for agents of releasing clubs and 3 percent of the player's salary for player agents and those of buying clubs respectively. The report stated that more than 17,000 international transfers of professional male players have been made so far this year and an agent was involved in 3,557 of those.
