Washington D.C. Is America’s Car Theft Capital

America’s capital, Washington D.C., has also earned itself the unenviable reputation as the country’s capital for car theft. Car owners are far more likely to have their vehicle stolen in the District of Columbia than any other area in the country. Indeed Washington D.C. had 1,135.7 thefts per 100,000 vehicles registered in 2012. California comes a distant second with 608.6 thefts per 100,000 registrations. Nevada rounds off the top three with 470.3 thefts for every 100,000 registered vehicles.
