Pickup Trucks

America's best-Selling Pickup Trucks

Elon Musk has unveiled Tesla's new Cybertruck, a futuristic vehicle resembling a cross between a DeLorean from Back to The Future and a stealth fighter jet which wouldn't look out of place on the set of a post-apocalyptic movie. Tesla is certainly taking a gamble by entering the competitive pickup market but the company is likely hoping that the intimidating looks of its new vehicle can sway some minds. Made of cold steel and resistant to bullets from a 9-millimeter handgun for some reason, the cheapest version of the Cybertruck will sell for $39,000 with a range of 250 miles while the most expensive version will cost $69,900 with a 500-mile range.

So what is the company going to be up against and what's going to go in its favor? The market is lucrative with General Motors reportedly making a profit of $17,000 on every pickup it sells. As the following infographic shows, The Ford F-Series was the best-selling vehicle so far this year with 662,574 units sold according to GoodCarBadCar.net, followed by the Dodge Ram and Chevrolet Silverado. Despite the competition, Tesla does have some reasons to be confident. Sustainability is becoming an issue and some of its key competitors like Ford and General Motors have confirmed they are moving to develop electric pickup trucks. Another factor which is likely to work in Musks favor is Tesla's ever-improving financial situation which means that even if the Cybertrucks fails, that failure will more than likely prove easier for the company to absorb.
