Students to vote tactically in attempt to scupper Brexit

A newly published survey from the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) has shown that a majority of undergraduate students in the UK are willing to vote tactically in the coming general election in order to achieve their preferred outcome on Brexit. As this infographic shows, for a large majority of students, this outcome would be the UK remaining a part of the European Union. When asked if in hindsight they think Britain was right or wrong to vote to leave the EU, 74 percent said it was wrong.

Brexit was also shown to be a decisive factor for a majority of students. Speaking about the survey, Nick Hillman, Director of HEPI said: "The student vote may or may not make a big difference at this election. It all depends on how close the overall result is. But when the student vote is discussed the conversation tends to dwell on issues like tuition fees. In fact, at this Brexit-focused election candidates’ views towards the EU could be a bigger factor when students decide how to vote."

71 percent said Brexit will affect how they vote, of which 29 percent stated it would 'strongly impact' their decision at the ballot box.
