UK bank branch closures: the biggest culprits
New figures from Which? have revealed the biggest culprits when it comes to closing bank branches in the UK. The analysis shows that 34 percent of all bank branches were closed from the start of 2015 to August 2019 - equating to 3,303 closures. As our infographic shows, RBS has shut down the largest share of branches, with a total of 74 percent closing their doors for the last time in this period. The Co-op wasn't far behind, with 69 percent of its branches now gone. At the other end of the scale, Nationwide Building Society kept 96 percent of its branches open in this time.
Regionally, Wales was the most affected part of the UK, seeing 43 percent of its bank branches close. The North West of England lost 40 percent, while London held onto the largest proportion of branches, experiencing the closure of 25 percent of its branches.
