Trust

The Most and Least Trusted Professions in the World

Trust me, I'm a doctor. So goes the well-worn phrase, but as an international survey by Ipsos MORI reveals, there is one group of professionals which is even more trusted - scientists. On average, across the 23 countries surveyed, 60 percent of people say the profession is trustworthy. Close behind are doctors, with 56 percent and teachers on 52 percent. At the other end of the scale, and perhaps not too surprising, are politicians and advertising executives.

Even at the top of the scale though, 60 percent is not really such a large share of the population. Scepticism is apparently quite high generally. According to Ipsos analysis, the countries with the highest overall levels of distrust are Argentina, South Korea and Hungary - all notably more negative than other countries at that end of the ranking. The highest levels of trust were found in China, followed by India and then Canada.
