The iPhone Trails In The U.S. 4G Speed League
Apple is expected to unveil its latest iPhones at an event later today where experts aren’t expecting any major innovations or departures from the current lineup such as a folding iPhone or one with 5G compatibility. In fact, most experts state that the first 5G iPhone is only expected to land in 2020 while current models already trail the competition by a significant distance over existing 4G networks.
That’s according to an OpenSignal analysis which found that the Chinese-made OnePlus 7 Pro actually has the fastest download speeds of any smartphone over 4G in the United States with 39.4 Mbps. The research was conducted between May 27 and August 25, 2019, covering America’s 50 fastest handsets over 4G. The first iPhone on the list is the XS Max and it only managed a dismal 43rd with 25.6 Mbps. The only other iPhone in the top-50 was the XS with 25.0 Mbps, placing it 47th.
