The U.S. States With The Most Highway Deaths
The Reason Foundation recently released a report tracking the performance of the 50 state-owned highway systems in the United States. The report also contained data on the highway fatality rate per 100 million vehicle miles which increased from 1.13 in 2015 to 1.18 in 2016. That year, South Carolina had the highest death rate with 1.86 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles on its highway network, ahead of Mississippi and Kentucky, both of which had 1.69.
