Where the World is Getting Warmer

Of 558 places around the world, climate data collected by the German Meteorological Service shows that when compared to the 1961-1990 temperature norm, a vast majority - 511 - saw an increase in 2018. 11 experienced no change and only 36 recorded a decrease. Selecting locations with a view to providing maximal geographical coverage, this infographic gives an overview of how the world is getting warmer.

Uelen, located just south of the Arctic Circle in the far east of Russia, registered the largest increase for 2018 - deviating by 5.1 degrees Celsius above the control period norm. But more heavily populated areas, well away from the northern and southern reaches of the globe also saw significant deviations. Las Vegas, for example had an increase of 3.1 degrees and European cities such as London and Munich were also at least 2 degrees warmer. The largest observed decrease was in Inukjuak, Canada, at -1.5 degrees.
