Donald Trump
What Americans Made Of Trump's Tweet About "The Squad"
On Sunday, President Trump took to Twitter to suggest several U.S. congresswomen of color leave the United States, despite the fact that three were born there and all are citizens. His tweets were widely condemned as being racist. The uproar is continuing after a crowd at a Trump rally in North Carolina chanted "send her back" in reference to Rep. Ilhan Omar, goaded on by the president.
The level of bitter division across the country has become even clearer over the past couple of days and YouGov conducted polling to see what the U.S. public thought of those tweets on Sunday. 37 percent people thought they were terrible and 15 percent considered them bad. Another 18 percent said the attacks on the congresswomen who are known as "the squad" were ok. Others were positive about them with 9 percent deeming them good and 21 percent labeling them great.
Unsurprisingly, there is a clear partisan divide with 71 percent of Democrats saying the tweets were terrible compared to just 5 percent of Republicans.
