Video Piracy

Pirated Video Gets Viewed Over 200 Billion Times A Year

A new report from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Innovation Policy Center and NERA Economic Consulting estimates that the global piracy of movies and TV shows costs the U.S. economy at least $29.2 billion in lost revenue every year. That estimate is conservative, however, and the true figure could well be as high as $71 billion annually.

Streaming-enabled piracy has now overtaken BitTorrent and other download-based technologies as the primary method of digital video piracy. The analysis states that pirated video now gets over 230 billion views every year with the vast majority originating outside the United States.
