Digital Cameras
More than 60% Owns or Uses Digital Cameras
Sixty percent of generation Z polled said that they own or use a digital camera, though about eighty percent said that their smartphone is still their primary camera.
Camera sales and shipments have plummeted since the smartphone took the world by storm, providing a computer and a camera all in one place. Keypoint Intelligence—InfoTrends, GenZ to Boomers Study found that among Generation Z, those aged 13 to 19 currently, pointed to how this generation could still be an important demographic for digital cameras. Digital point and shoot cameras and digital SLR cameras both had the highest share of teenagers owning or using them, with three out of ten teens reporting using point and shoot and about a quarter reporting owning or using DSLR cameras. About half of the generation Z consumers reported aspiring to own a digital camera in the future.
While this might buck an unexpected trend, many teens spend hours on photo and video centric social media sites, all of which may be piquing an interest in photography for some.
