How Much ISPs Spend on Lobbying in the U.S.
Tech research company Comparitech have analyzed the lobbying expenses of internet service providers (ISPs) in the United States' to reveal the huge amounts of money being spent by the sector's biggest players. As our infographic shows, AT&T invested by far the most over this period, with more than $340 million allocated to gaining political influence in these 21 years.
According to Comparitech, last year was the biggest so far for ISP lobbying, coming to a total of $80 million. AT&T was also the most prolific in 2018, when it spent $15.82 million. The most spent in one year by an ISP since 1998 was again AT&T, with outgoings of $22.96 million in 1999 - most of which was related to the merger with Ameritech Corp.
