After Columbine: Victims of School Shootings in the U.S.

Twenty years ago this Saturday, at 11:19 AM, two twelfth grade students with multiple firearms shot at and murdered twelve of their fellow students and one teacher, while directly injuring a further 21 people. Bombs planted by the perpetrators earlier in the day failed to detonate. While this wasn't the country's first school shooting, it was the deadliest at the time and it shocked and shook the U.S. to a then unprecedented degree.

Although the shooting incited debates around gun control, still no major progress has been made for those pushing for more regulation. Columbine, while not the first, was unfortunately also not the last school mass shooting in the United States. As this infographic shows, when looking at incidents which involved 2 or more deaths (not including the perpetrator), there have been a total of 168 people killed and 151 injured in school shootings since that dark day in 1999 in Colorado.
