Europe's Largest Potato Producers

According to Eurostat, 53 million tonnes of potatoes were harvested across the EU in 2015, a reduction of 36 percent compared to 2000. Germany was the main producer with a 19.5 percent share of that total, followed by France (13.4 percent), the Netherlands (12.5 percent) and Poland (11.6 percent). When it comes to farms and area, almost 1.6 million hectares were used for growing potatoes in 2015, 50 percent of which was in Poland, Germany and France. All in all, nearly 1.9 million farms in the EU grew potatoes in 2015, with the average potato area per farm 0.8 ha.
