Sustained Progress in the Worldwide Fight Against Malaria
According to the World Health Organisation, global efforts to control malaria have had a major impact. Between 2000 and 2012, an estimated 3.3 million lives were saved through improved prevention and control measures.
Back in 2002, at least 876,000 people died from malaria, a number that fell to 806,000 by 2006. Increased political commitment and higher spending continued to improve the situation in the time since – an estimated 627,000 people died from the disease in 2012.
