Cloud Gaming
The Sky Is the Limit for Cloud Gaming
Last week Google announced that it was throwing its hat into the world of cloud gaming with its service Stadia. Cloud gaming relies on servers to run a gaming service instead of high-powered PCs. The player streams the videogame from the cloud, allowing them to access their game from anywhere and any device, from a phone to a TV to a PC. On the business side of things, bringing gaming to the cloud provides a way to bring high engagement and profit streams into the cash-intensive world of cloud computing, which in the long run offers scalability and cost efficiencies.
In 2017, Statista estimates that the worldwide cloud computing market was worth roughly $45 million. Just six years later, Statista estimates that cloud computing will be valued at around $450 million, a 900 percent increase between 2017 and 2023. The next few years will be a crucial time to push the industry forward. Both Microsoft, Amazon, and Nvidia are all developing their own cloud gaming services. After Google’s announcement, rumors resurfaced about a possible Walmart cloud gaming option in the works as well.
