When Women Become Mothers in Europe
In figures released this week, Eurostat has revealed the differing average ages at which women first become a mother in European countries. Waiting the longest in 2017 were the Italians, with a mean age at the time of birth of 31.1 - two years older than the EU average and five years older than Bulgaria, where the typical first-time-mother is 26.1 years old. Looking at the overall trend in the EU, there has been an increase since 2013, when the average age was 28.7. The largest individual change was witnessed in Estonia, with a jump of 1.2 years.
