Have We Done Enough For Women?

According to a survey carried out by the research company Ipsos in 26 countries, Spaniards are the ones who most strongly believe that enough has already been done in terms of ensuring equal rights of women and men. 71 percent of respondents in the online survey agreed with the statement: "When it comes to giving women equal rights with men, things have gone far enough in my country", with 74 percent of male respondents giving that answer. Among the ten states with highest agree rates were four Latin American countries: Peru, Colombia, Mexico and Argentina. Other countries high up on the list included Malaysia, India and Russia.

Japan, the UK and Brazil were the countries with the least respondents agreeing that gender equality had progressed far enough. Women and men in the three countries somewhat agreed that they still had a long way to go.

While men were generally quicker to agree to the statement, the highest discrepancy in response rates between the sexes was recorded in South Korea, with 33 percent more women disagreeing than men. That same discrepancy was also astonisingly high in Germany (26 percent), Sweden (20 percent) and the Netherlands (13 percent).

Malaysia was the country where male and female answers were closest together, with 68 percent of women and 69 percent of men saying equal rights had gone far enough.
