What Netanyahu's Indictment Means For Israeli Elections
Israel's attorney general has announced he intends to indict Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on corruption charges, a decision which could have considerable ramifications in the country's April elections. He is facing possible charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust in connection with three cases. In a televised address, Netanyahu said he is the victim of a left-wing witch hunt to topple him and that the case would "collapse like a house of cards".
According to polling published in The Times of Israel, the announcement could severely damage Netanyahu's chances in the tightly-contested election. The survey shows that Netanyahu's Likud party would lose a significant level of support and face the loss of four Knesset seats. The indictment is also likely to result in more support for the newly formed Blue and White party which would end up in a strong position to form a coalition.
