Democrats Could Stop National Emergency Wall Funding

U.S. President Donald Trump is on the verge of defeat on his national border emergency, according to reporting by the New York Times. Democratic lawmakers in Washington have been preparing since the previous week to bring forward a resolution in the House stopping the president from diverting money from federal budgets to construct barriers on the Southern U.S. border without Congressional approval.

The bill is expected to pass the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives. After that, a vote would need to be held within 18 days in the Senate. Over the weekend, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) was the fourth Republican Senator to come out in support of the bill, with Sen. Susan Collins of Maine and Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina already saying they will vote with Democrats and Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska also very likely to support the resolution. As seen in the graphic, Rand Paul is therefore the Senator likely to tip the scales against Trump's national emergency declaration.
