Homeless death rate 9 times higher in the most poverty-hit areas

Newly released experimental statistics from the UK's Office for National Statistics have revealed how many homeless people have died in England and Wales from 2013 to 2017. The city with the highest number of deaths in 2017 was Manchester, with 21. When broken down by deprivation decile, a clear trend is to be seen. Generally speaking, the more poverty-hit an area, the more homeless deaths per 100,000 population. Comparing the most deprived (1 on the infographic) to the least deprived (10) in England, the rate was nine times more in the former.
