Biden Feeling the Bern

On Feb 11, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) became the new frontrunner in the race for the Democratic Party nomination in the 2020 presidential election. According to polling averages calculated by Real Clear Politics, former Vice President Joe Biden saw a steep drop in support after it became clear that Sanders was on track to overtake him. Most recently, 29.3 percent of registered Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents said that they would vote for Sanders, while only 17.2 percent said they would still pick Biden.

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) lost momentum, too, and is now polling behind Michael Bloomberg, who spent heavily on ads in January and surged in the polls as a result. Pete Buttigieg, who fared well in the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary found himself in fifth place.

Poll averages in South Carolina, where the last primary ahead of Super Tuesday will take place, look different altogether. Here, Biden has been defending his lead over Sanders.
