Immigration Runs Trump's State of the Union
In last night’s State of the Union Address, President Trump devoted a significant majority of his speech to immigration. The new Congress and the President have been in a stand-off over their diverging ideas on immigration policy, which led to the longest shutdown in U.S. history. President Trump agreed to fund the government through the middle of February before he takes more dramatic action to achieve his goal of securing funds for a border wall.
According to USA Facts, President Trump spent almost 97 out of every 10,000 words on immigration. President Trump’s focus on the topic far outpaces the past two presidents. Immigration was by far President Trump’s most talked about topic, with his second most discussed topic—jobs—only getting 61 mentions for every 10,000 words.
