Men Dominate News Across All Media Types
According to a recent analysis of over 50,000 pieces of content by the Women’s Media Center, men dominate bylines and news appearances across all major news platforms. The analysis covered all major American newspapers, many regional papers, online platforms, and even a tabloid.
For news wires, like the Associated Press and Reuters, about seven out of every ten stories are written by men. Those numbers do not get more egalitarian looking at prime-time news networks, like ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS, where 63 percent of news anchors are male. The gender breakdown of online and print news is roughly similar, with about four out of every ten bylines being accredited to women.
