Venezuela Crisis
Only A Third Of Venezuelans Trust Their Government
Venezuela's self-proclaimed interim president says that his quest to oust Nicolas Maduro will be boosted by massive rallies planned for this week. Juan Guaido posted a video to Twitter yesterday calling for the people of Venezuela to take to the streets on Wednesday in peaceful protest against Maduro's presidency.
Even though the situation in Venezuela remains extremely volatile and uncertain, it's clear that whoever emerges as the country's ruler will have a huge task in restoring trust in a populace ravaged by economic turmoil. A Pew Research Center survey conducted between September and December 2018 found that only a third of Venezuelans trust their government to do what is right for the country.
Younger Venezuelans, particularly those with higher levels of education, are less likely to trust the government. Levels of trust are higher among those aged 50 and above, however, at 41 percent.
