Picture of an Egg Becomes Most Liked on Instagram

A plot to make the simple but intriguing picture of an egg the most liked post on Instagram – just worked out like that. The anonymous poster who uses the Instagram account @world_record_egg and pretends to be a British hen named Henrietta beat the standing record of 18.48 million likes on Monday and had racked up 39.25 million likes by Tuesday morning.

The poster now shares the upper echelons of Instagram stardom with the likes of Kylie Jenner, Justin Bieber and Cristiano Ronaldo. While all pictures in the Instagram most-liked Top 10 were posted sometime in 2018, the egg pic was barely ten days old when it broke the record, having been posted on Jan 4.

In an exclusive interview with The Independent, the anonymous account creator claimed to be based in London and just having posted the picture and caption, which urged people to break the record formerly held by Kylie Jenner, on a whim.

Instagram celebrity Jenner, who is part of the social media famous Kardashian clan, still has four spots in the Instagram most-liked Top 10, but had to give up her top spot to the ploy to break her dominance as the queen of Instagram likes. This is where Henrietta now reigns.
