Superstars dominate India's box office

Like every other year, 2018 has seen blockbusters from the big names – the Khans and Amitabh Bachchan to Rajnikanth. What was different this year, however, was the rise of young actors and actresses alike making their mark and bringing success in the vast ocean that is the Indian film industry.

Deepika Padukone’s portrayal of Padmaavat, a 14th century Rajput queen, and Aalia Bhat’s role of a spy for India in Raazi are the favorites for award season, along with immense critical acclaim. Badhaai Ho, on the other hand, starring Ayushmann Khurrana tells the story of a 25-year old’s embarrassment when his mother announces that she is pregnant.

The changes get more evident with every year – success at the box office lies in new perspectives of storytelling, addressing sensitive issues using satire and spotting the right talent for conviction and of course, the infamous dance moves.
