A Rough Timeline Of The Crisis In Ukraine

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called for NATO to deploy warships to the sea of Azov. His request comes in the wake of a naval confrontation between Ukraine and Russia in the strait near Kerch which resulted in the Russians seizing three ships and their crews. The call for NATO warships comes as news emerged that British Royal Navy destroyer HMS Duncan was "buzzed" by up to 17 Russian fighter jets in the Black Sea near Crimea in May of this year.

How did we get here? While it does not aim to list every detail of Ukraine's turbulent relationship with Russia since 2013, it provides a rough overview of the main events, such as the annexation of Crimea and war in the Donbass, that have pushed both countries to the brink of all out war on several occasions.
