Young Adults Support Turkey Day Store Openings

Young adults support retailers keeping stores open on Thanksgiving at higher rates than their older counterparts. According to a Morning Consult survey, about half of the people polled in generation Z, those who are between the ages of 18 and 21, wanted retailers to be open on Thanksgiving Day. By comparison only about a fifth of Boomers, those between the ages of 54 and 72, supported stores opening their doors on Thanksgiving.

It’s become increasingly common for stores to open their Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving, which always falls the Thursday before Black Friday in the United States. Some stores are bucking this trend, with 60 stores opting not to open on Thanksgiving.
