Does Brexit make a united Ireland more likely?

With the Irish backstop proving to be one of the biggest spanners in the Brexit negotiation works, the future of the island of Ireland is somewhat up in the air. According to a new survey conducted on behalf of RTÉ and the BBC, the majority of people in Northern Ireland think that a unification with the Republic of Ireland is now more likely than it was before the 2016 Brexit referendum. Across the border, a 'united Ireland' is seen as being closer to reality by fewer respondents, however a plurality (35 percent) do nevertheless think this is the case, too.
