World Record Breaker Closes in on 2 Hour Marathon
At the Berlin Marathon over the weekend, Eliud Kipchoge broke the world marathon record by over a minute. The record is now 99 seconds away from breaking the elusive 2-hour marathon mark, a feat of human physicality never before accomplished.
Cutting the record by 78-seconds in one go is the biggest record-breaking jump in over 50 years, an especially impressive achievement given that he ran a little over 10.5 miles alone. Tracking the progression of the marathon world record for the most recent fastest times, almost all records have been broken on the Berlin course.
