Youth Unemployment Still Unrelenting in Europe

Youth unemployment is still unrelenting in Europe. According to Eurostat, 5.499 million young persons (under 25) were unemployed in the EU28 in August 2013. Of these, 3.457 million were in the eruozone.

The highest rates of youth unemployment were observed in Greece with 61.5 percent (in June 2013) and Spain with 56 percent. New member state Croatia rounds off the top three with 52 percent.

Austria and Germany had the lowest rates of youth unemployment with 8.6 and 7.7 percent respectively. Across the entire EU28, the rate was 23.7 percent.
