Nvidia Graphics Cards Still Top Choice For PC Gamers
Nvidia has unveiled three new additions to its graphics card lineup after weeks of leaks and speculation. The RTX 2070, 2080 and 2080Ti are powered by Turing GPU architecture and are expected to use ray tracing technology to provide better shadow and lighting effects. Among PC gamers, Nvidia graphics cards are still top choice, judging by the results of the latest Steam hardware survey. Involving millions of Steam gamers who provide their PC configurations, it's a major benchmark of hardware trends across the PC gaming community.
As can be seen by the following infographic, the days when AMD ruled the PC gaming market are well and truly over. In June 2016, a quarter of gamers on Steam used an AMD GPU and that has now fallen to just 13.9 percent. In the meantime, Nvidia has tightened its stranglehold over the sector and its market share has increased from 56 percent in June 2016 to 76 percent by July 2018. Its dominance can be seen by the most popular graphics cards among Steam users, all of which are Nvidia models. The GTX 1060 has the biggest share of the Steam userbase with 12.9 percent, followed by the GTX 1050 Ti (9.9 percent) and GTX 1050 (6.4 percent).
