Where US-Made Bombs Are Killing Civilians In Yemen
Dozens of children were killed in a Saudi-led coalition airstrike on their school bus in Northern Yemen on Thursday. The children were on a field trip when their bus was bombed at a market, killing 50 and injuring another 77. It has now emerged that the bomb used in the attack was a 500 pound Paveway laser-guided bomb supplied by the United States.
CNN aired images of the shrapnel in the aftermath of the blast and experts confirmed that Lockheed Martin made the bomb. The Royal Saudi Air Force is also relying on US-supplied F-15 aircraft to carry out the brunt of the bombing campaign and they are armed modern American weaponry. Last week's incident was by no means the first resulting in mass-civilian casualties through US-made bombs.
In October 2016, 155 people were killed and another 525 were wounded when two airstrikes hit a packed funeral hall in Sanaa. It was the deadliest single bombing in the conflict and the mayor of Sanaa, Abdel Qader Hilal, was reportedly among those killed. According to analysts, US bombs were also used by the Saudi-led coalition in that attack.
