Forest Fires in Europe

In the Attica region near Athens, Greece, at least 60 people have died in forest fires which are still raging, making it the worst fire disaster in the country in over ten years. As our infographic shows, forest fires are far from a rarity in Europe though, with Portugal and Spain recorded the most incidents in 2016 - 13,261 and 8,817 respectively. That year in Greece there were an estimated 777 according to the European Commission.
