Some Rain on Trump’s Parade
President Trump’s military parade is scheduled to take place on November 10 of this year. The military procession is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1, which was officially over on November 11th, 1918. It also coincides with Veterans Day, an American holiday that honors the service of American soldiers. The whole affair will cost the government around $12 million dollars and will feature military personnel in various period uniforms along with airshows by fighter planes.
Veterans face many issues in the United States, from inaccessible healthcare to poverty. The money spent on that parade could instead be spent hiring 110 more psychologists for veterans, or it could pay for a full day of meals for every veteran living in poverty. Alternatively, the government could spend that money to get every veteran in South Carolina into the Grand Canyon or buy every vet in New York City 8 beers.
