Shridhar Chillal Cuts His Fingernails After 66 Years

The story made headlines over the past couple of days. Some found it fascinating. Some found it impressive. Others found it absolutely disgusting. No matter what you think about Shridhar Chillal from Pune in India, one thing is absolutely certain. The man had the longest fingernails ever recorded until he had them cut off in Times Square, New York.

The 82-year-old had been growing his nails since 1952 and when their length was last measured, they stretched 909.6cm long combined. Just to put that into perspective: it's about the same length as a London bus or Cessna 172 airplane. It's also around the same length as Michael Powell's record-breaking long jump from 1991.
