Erdogan Goes it Alone

After winning a snap election on Sunday, Recep Tayyip Erdogan will serve a second term as president of Turkey. In a very close popular referendum last year, Erdogan had the powers of the presidency expanded. As of the new term, the president is head of state and government. Erdogan first became prime minister in 2003 and then switched into the presidential role in 2014. If he serves out his second presidential term Erdogan will have been in power for 20 years.
