Refugees
Lebanon Still Has The Highest Refugees Density
Lebanon still hosts the most refugees in relation to its population size by far. According to latest figures released by the UNHCR, 164 refugees per 1,000 inhabitants found refuge in the small country on the Easter Mediterranean at the end of 2017. Those numbers only include refugees under the mandate of the UNHCR, if Palestinian refugees under the mandate of the UNRWA (of which some have lived in Lebanon for 70 years) are included, the count rises to 250 refugees per 1,000 people.
Though only in third place in relation to its population size, Turkey is the country that has taken in most refugees overall, hosting 3.5 million refugees at the end of 2017, of which most fled there from fighting in neighboring Syria.
