2018 World Cup

The Players Carrying The Biggest Weight at the World Cup

The CIES Football Observatory tracks the value of football (i.e. soccer) players' transfer value. Some players have seen their value skyrocket in recent years with Egypt and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah one of the most obvious examples. After a phenomenal season in England, his transfer value has risen to €171 million, a sum far higher than any of his international team mates. In fact, Salah's transfer value is 74 percent of Egypt's entire squad value.

Considering that, Salah is sure to have some weight on his shoulders at the World Cup and this time, it'll have nothing to do with Sergio Ramos. Another player who accounts for a massive chunk of his international team's value is Heung Min Son of South Korea. The Tottenham Hotspur forward is worth just over €90 million and that would be 73 percent of the South Korean squad's total value.
