Ontario Election: The PC Party's Most Expensive Promises

Doug Ford has been elected leader of Ontario, Canada's most populous province. The brother of the late and controversial former mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford, Doug Ford and his Progressive Conservatives (PC Party) won 76 of the 124 seats in the election. The PC Party triumphed amid a wave of popular resentment against Kathleen Wynne and they have ended 15 years of Liberal rule in Ontario.

For Doug Ford, there's going to be a lot of work to do, especially to achieve everything the Conservatives promised before the election. Notably, Ford gave voters no assurances about how he was going to pay for the long list of promises. The 10 most expensive ones are listed below and the infographic was compiled using PC Party data published in The Globe and Mail. A 20 percent middle-class income tax cut would cost $2.3 billion CAD, while ending Cap and Trade would come to $1.9 billion CAD. Even lowering gas taxes by 10 cents a litre would cost a whopping $1.2 billion CAD. All in all, the 10 most-expensive PC Party promises would cost just over $9 billion CAD to deliver.
