Cyber attacks are a growing threat to Japanese businesses
According to the National Police Agency (NPA) in Japan, the number of spear phishing e-mail attacks continued to increase in recent years, reaching over 6,000 confirmed attacks in 2017. The Japanese police reported further that the hacker group “Anonymous” claimed responsibility for cyberattacks against 65 organizations in Japan. In its efforts to counteract cyber-attacks, the NPA established a framework including almost 8,000 organizations and business operators with cutting-edge technologies all over the country to share information on cyber-crime.
Especially with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games ahead, several countermeasures were planned, such as promoting partnerships between the public and private sectors, international collaboration and information sharing, as well as joint response exercises with organizations responsible for hosting previous Olympic events
