Education sector suffers greatest share of cyberattacks

A recently released report by Dimension Data has revealed that education was the economic sector suffering the greatest share of cyber attacks in Australia in 2017. Cyber attacks on the education sector made up 26 percent of all attacks on Australian targets, well ahead of the 17 percent of attacks seen in the finance sector. As well as being the target of attacks, Australia was also the source country of a significant share of these attacks. 66 percent of attacks against the finance sector, and 84 percent of attacks against the government sector, were linked to attacks launched from within Australia. Across the entire Asia Pacific region, finance was the sector that was the hardest hit, incurring 26 percent of attacks in the region.
