70 Years of UN Peacekeeping

Who's Footing the Bill to Keep the Peace?

70 years ago, the United Nations for the first time sent observers to Palestine to monitor a provisional truce during the Arab-Israeli War of 1948. The passing of the 50th resolution titled “The Palestine Question” laid the foundation for today’s peacekeeping missions manned by the Blue Helmets.

Even if America’s has repeatedly threatened to reduce its share of the UN budget, Washington still pays the single biggest share of 28,47 percent of the current peacekeeping budget. This amounts to close to 2 billion of the overall 6.8 billion dollars for the budget that ends June 30, 2018.
