Irish Abortion Referendum

UK: Ireland accounts for 67.9% of non-resident abortions

As part of major Irish news website TheJournal.ie's coverage of the upcoming abortion referendum in Ireland, Statista helped create several infographics concerning the number of Irish women travelling to the UK for terminations. As can be seen by the following chart, 3,265 Irish women and girls had legal terminations in the UK in 2016, far more than any other non-residents. Malta and Italy were in second and third position with 58 and 45 terminations respectively each. In fact, Ireland accounts for just under 68 percent of all non-resident abortions in the UK.
