Where Brits die abroad
It already feels like the holiday season in the UK as the country swelters in temperatures more akin to Ibiza than the Isle Of Wight. Even though trips abroad are a source of relaxation and fun for most Britons, they do occasionally end in tragedy when citizens lose their lives. Between April 2015 and March 2016, Spain was the top country for British deaths abroad, whether that was due to accidents or due to natural causes among the sizeable and older expatriate population. Consular assistance was sought in 697 cases during that period, quite a distance ahead of second-placed Thailand's 374. France was the third country by number of assistance cases in deaths abroad at 176, according to the most recent government figures.
